I realised when I went to Aussiecon III in 1999 hat I just can't cope with big crowds, at least not without a friend nearby (and I learned the hard way that not all fans are friends). Like most fans I wish the series had been longer, but at least the film, as compact as it was, resolved some of the issues and story arcs of the series, and gave closure on the characters. That said, would I like to see ANOTHER film with these characters? I think perhaps not, because whatever the plot was, it'd be sup[superfluous this this one, just like (IMHO) all the Alien films after the 2nd one missed the point.

Dewdney in a 1984 Scientific American article, and still going strong with a semi-regular tournaments, has a bit of a backstory.  Here we have Creeper & Reaper, a pair of autonomous replicants from 1971, which inspired Dewdney to his invention, and nearby we find Darwin from 1961 which has many similarities to Corewar.  The two games are compared in this note from 1998:

Well, that was an odd outing.

Well, that was an odd outing.. I'd misread the email message and rather than  having arrived, that BONUS book was cancelled. Still, I got several articles I downloaded printed, and discovered at the library not only the last five volumes of FABLES (which I can now read after the 11th), but a curious graphic novel THE MOTHERLESS OVEN.   I've read most of it traveling on the bus - quite bizarre but an an intriguing book.

The Doctor's current companion, CLARA, is leaving soon (which was announced ages ago), in what's been described  as a "shocking fashion". Here's my take on this, based on NO EVIDENCE at all
(so NOT A SPOILER THEN).

1) What if THIS Clara is captured and converted by the Daleks, only to be dumped in their Asylum? That would mean that we've already seen the end of Clara, and she won't come back because she was blown up with the Asylum planet!!! That would be extremely viscous way to exit her!

2) What if Clara is actually a "chameleon arch" of an EARLIER version of Missy? It would explain a few things, especially Missy's comments  about "choosing her". The shocking ending might be that she finds her token (might be an old watch), becomes Time Lord again and regenerates into Missy! Wouldn't THAT be a stunning (and permanent) way of writing her out! And the motivation? Missy wanted to "run" with her friend, but knew he'd never do that willingly. Being Clara was a way to do that.By being "Chameleon Arched" she forgets that she's Missy for the duration, but recalls all that when she finally reverts to Time Lord. And, because she's done all that before, she then goes back in time and sets up Clara meeting the Doctor!

I'm guessing that when she does goe, it'll be a lot more mundane  than either of the possibilities I've suggested, but sometimes the fun's in speculating.

I applaud the attempt but calling GO "the Eastern version of chess" just shows the ignorance of the writer about eastern versions of Chess (like Shogi, Xiangqi, or Chaturanga). Go has no equivalent in traditional European games.

That Hicks guy might have been on to something. It's always easier to attack the messenger than the message,, especially if that message isn't something you WANT to hear. Zen Pencils hitting nails on heads again, to good effect. I particularly like the last six panels. :)
