I woke up just after 4am and watched this film to pass the time.

I woke up just after 4am and watched this film to pass the time. It was, almost amusing. I found Lucy's rise omnipotence anticlimactic and cliched, with the only suspense being whether or not she will achieve her apotheosis before her body fails. Reading the wikipedia page on this, I found one critic quoted as saying "It's like 2001: A Space Odyssey for those with short attention spans", which seems accurate to me.

I guess the thing that ruined it for me was its use of the "only 10% of the brain" myth which has no scientific basis at all (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_percent_of_the_brain_myth). I've walked out of lectures and talks that had that as their starting point (just as I ignore folk who use "quantum physics" and not "quantum mechanics")! Also, if someone overdosed on 6-carboxy-5,6,7,8-tetrahydropterin they'd by more likely to have abnormal bone development, not brain development.

That's probably why I never saw this at the cinema. Also, the ending just sucked. Really Besson, really?!

I thought I'd take Dream World out for a spin.

I thought I'd take Dream World out for a spin. It did well, despite my efforts to overload it. I installed it on my Network N: drive, the same drive I use for my stand-alone grids on my home network (which is a work-around so that I can use any of my 3 PCs with work with those grids).  I ran it on my RecRoom PC which has 8 GB of memory, was running Win7 and has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (GM107)  graphics card. (with 2 GB memory)

Overall it ran well, and the issues I did have were more likely related to my home network than the DreamWorldz itself. I'm impressed with this as something that ran very smoothly out of the box. I can also see the potential use for it for my webcomic, only instead of havingthe listed OARs available, I'd have my own on the selection.

OK, I've just been watching the first episode of the new McGyver, and, well I'm sold!  This Mac is a little more cocky than the 80s Mac, but it's early days yet. Dalton is dependable but a bit thick, but Thornton - Patricia Thornton - seems to have a much harder edge than her 80s version (Pete). I liked that the show has already referenced the established characters of the old series other than the ones mentioned above. Wilt Bozer is Mac's cook! There was a mention of Penny  and we see why the Phoenix Foundation was called that.

It wasn't until half way through the episode though that it started feeling more like an episode of McGyver than Mission Impossible, with Mac and Dalton trying to find the McGuffin in and Mac improvising to avoid using a gun.  And regarding that, the voice over by Mac recalls the 80s first season, whereas the overlaid text pointing out what things are seems more SHERLOCK.

Lastly, first episode, we learn exactly what Mac's first name is - Angus - and no  running gag on that in this series. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Have been bored a lot today.

Have been bored a lot today. Still sick, but bored. I though I'd checkout some of the virtual worlds I used for Seconds.

This vSide (see http://www.vside.com/app/dashboard), and years back it was always populated with avatars, many of which would beg for in-world currency. vSide  was mostly a a "let's dance and conspicuously consume" world, where it was impossible to have an AV that was other than thin and teenage. Hence my take on it at http://seconds.thecomicseries.com/comics/266/. Even so, I liked how the different places looked.

But now, it seems a deserted world. The music streams seem  broken (listen to them and you'll hear what I mean) and as that's the case how can you dance to it? There must be users out there somewhere, but they're not in the streets or in the clubs. What you do find is the NPC bots, ready to sell you stuff just like they always have.   Ho Hum.

I can' stay away from this. Following a suggestion I downloaded BT Contact (see http://www.bitmanagement.de/en/products/interactive-3d-clients/bs-contact) and installed it, then I opened http://cdmon.pagesperso-orange.fr/Obse/no_cache/Monde_One.wrl. It worked! Nice and smooth and showing all the graphics. Not only that, but the background music played.

Of course the location is still a bit buggy. Previously (using Exit Reality) I had made a made a thunderstorm roll in and it was quite dynamic and niosy. Not so far with this, and it froze several times and crashed a couple as wel. I think though that's an issue with the cdmon site, as that happened with Exit Reality as well.

But, very pleased to be able to visit this virtual destination again.  When I'll feeling better I might make an OpenSim homage to it.

Feeling a bit better this afternoon. For some reason I went looking for this, and I found it! I know this from using the Exit Reality browser plugin (where it was called "The Forest"), which is now sadly defunct.

I have loved this world, but Exit Reality never did it justice. As I understand it you may be able to view this using a VRML viewer or plugin (blaxxun Contact 5.1 was used by the creators).
