I found this fairly gripping to read, though I read it slightly out of order. It's about family, and an impossible set of keys that "do things".

Ha ha ha ha. What this does effectively, is critique the artificial space created within an "Art Gallery". What a gallery does is set up expectations about the sort of experience you'll find within. Some minimalist and dadaist art involves "found objects"  or stuff that looks like that. I watched Monday's episode just now.

I watched Monday's episode just now. I was impressed with their take on the story, which unlike their "Thor Bridge" adaptation, didn't take less than five minutes to solve! But I also like that I guessed ahead about the TRUE nature of the hound (due to personal knowledge).

It's also interesting to compare this episode with the equivalent one in SHERLOCK. I like Sherlock, but I think that it's more concerned with fame and fandom, whereas ELEMENTARY is more realistic in how Holmes would operate in a contemporary setting.

I was ever a Holmes fan before anything else, Who and Trek included.

I've been watching a bit of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and apart from being a "B comic" adaptation (Rip Hunter was never a major figure, and mostly from the 60s) it shows Arthur Darvill playing a character very DIFFERENT from Rory Williams in Doctor Who.

As much as I like seeing Captain Cold almost being a hero (and seeing a future Oliver Queen missing his left arm), I think it's a silly show. We'll see if it gets better.

I had wondered what happened to the new Daleks. You see a hint of them in Asylum of the Daleks but every other episode seems to have the smaller older style. This article provides an explanation, one also suggested in http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/what-happened-to-the-dalek-paradigm-76292.htm.

And yes, it's only a show, but it's still interesting to speculate. I think perhaps the New Paradigm versions have been used more in the Audio stories that are still being made.

There were some great one-liners though, and you definitely have to wait until the post-credit teaser.

I just finished watching the first season of JESSICA JONES.

I just finished watching the first season of JESSICA JONES. Now by coincidence I read the first three trade paperbacks of the comics just before I started watching, and borrowed the 4th volume from the library today. So, I was already into the character before i watched a single episode.

And I found the TV series a good adaptation of those comics. Sure, there are extra characters, and some characters, like Luke Cage act very differently than they do in the comics, but what makes this series sing for me, as much as the comics did, is the characterizations. Goddess Jessica is tough, but much tougher on herself than anyone else. I liked seeing "The Night Nurse" who turns up in the Daredevil series (which I've also been watching). I'd guessed how the season arc was going to end but it was still nail biting until the resolution. It's also obvious what the story arc of the next season's going to be, and I look forward to that as well.

In many ways Jessica reminds me so much of FAITH from BUFFY. Some attitude and strength and vulnerability. She even mentioned "fighting the big bad" in the final ep, a classic reference to Buffy.

I think what added a lot to this series (and to Daredevil as well) was the "flat" manner in which the scenes were shot, and a really good pacing between highs and lulls in each episode.

I saw Divergent: Allegiant today.

I saw Divergent: Allegiant today. The first film (Divergent) was almost as close an adaptation as The Hunger Games was. The second film (Insurgent) started and ended as the second book did, but much was changed in the middle of the film.

This film deviates in major ways from the 3rd book. In fact it seems to be part 1 of an adaptation of the 3rd book (part 2 out next year) but really the next film if it follows form will have very little in common with the 3rd book other than the characters and settings. Not that this is a bad film, but it is a LAZY one.

The third book posed moral dilemmas to the characters who escape from Chicago and discover that the outside is not what they expected. In the books, Tris is only one of many Divergents, whereas in the films she's the ONLY one. Lots of high tech introduced that wasn't in the book, any mostly used for spectacular chase scenes. It's also missing a key symbol - of drops of water dripping on a granite block - which is absent entirely.

I'll see the 4th film, but won't expect much from it.
