The Buggle-Praxis Base is first and foremost a
set to shoot scenes on. That means it doesn't have to be all in one bit, which is just as well considering how many prims I've used to construct it.
I've divided it into levels, and each level has a wall linkset and a floor linkset. In this example the Roof floor linkset only has 24 prims, whereas the wall linkset for that level has 335! I couldn't build this way in Second Life because that limits a linkset to 256 prims and a distance apart of about 64m. OS on the other hand has an upper limit of 1024 prims and a distance limit of all prims being in the same region.
Shooting an
interior scene is going to require the floor and wall linkset for that level, plus the floor linkset for the level above it. Having three separate linksets is handy, because you can remove the ceiling from a shot above, and/or temporarily delete or de-rez a prim (from copies of the level) if you need to. Of cpourse it's vital to get the locations of each relative to other levels. Hence the base prim is always going to be in roughly the same location for each level.
Shooting an
exterior scene really requires ALL the levels because a shot's viewpoint will seldom be horizontal and/or other parts of the base will be in the background. For example, the images here
couldn't be used for a shot, unless something's happened to the rest of the base! The shot was created by raising the floor and wall linksets by 10m and creating a blank blue prim underneath.
