So I watched this at the Tower Cinemas yesterday. I thought it was excellent! Although set in the USA, it didn't have the look and feel of an American film. Rather, especially with the score that includes accordion in the background, it seemed very European or French to me, and better for that. And the secret government establishment we see in the film - I bet this is a branch of an organisation that owns the warehouse the Ark is stored in, and runs the Time Tunnel out west! LOVED IT.
Not so sure about the cinema complex though. This was the same location that I saw the DOCTOR WHO Xmas special in last year, in cinema 1. That was on the ground floor but cinema 2 was up three flights of stairs! When I got to that they'd cordoned off the front third of the cinema, and a number of seats were either loose, or in very poor condition. Probably if I'd been well none of this would have mattered but because I was sick it was all in my face.
But, this is the ONLY cinema in Newcastle showing the film, so that's where I had to go.

So finally, I'm at level 0 / Basement.
So finally, I'm at level 0 / Basement. Could have just left these as decorative blocks, but no, I had to have sort or recycling system down there! I'll fill the details in after reviewing what real recycling stations look like. Suffice it to say, that excrement and urine goes into the 1st tank via hidden plumbing, urine/dirty water gets extracted to the 2nd tank, and the filtered water goes into the general reservoir. Note the pipes that can pump both ways to the rainwater reservoir, in case of drought. Oh yes, and Buggle Trading has some "seaweed" tasting crackers available for free in the cafeteria. Just don't ask where they get them.
Apart from recycling, there's also a number of gas and fuel tanks that get stored on this level, including extracted/recycled gasses. Don't light a match down here!

I've got to consolidating level 2 of the base.I have a locks sky blue 256m² prim just underneath the floor linkset. I find this clarifies a lot which prims belong to the current level. Each level has at least a floor and a wall linkset, and may need more depending upon what objects and props are on that floor.
Many of the floating items still there were casual omissions from f\previous level's consolidations. As soon as I finish a level I add 40m to the Z Axis of each linkset, starting with the wall one first. Most times it becomes obvious that I've missed a prim or two because they get left behind.
Others however, like the the advanced sliding and auto swinging doors, would be better being installed via a Buidler's Buddy connection. That's because the scripts that make them work rely on them in 3-4 prim linksets. Oops, I missed that issue!

A review of Mort Walker's book "The Lexicon of Comicana" (1960). was intended as a tongue-in-cheek look at the devices used by cartoonists. In it, Walker invented an international set of symbols called symbolia after researching cartoons around the world.

This film felt like a Studio Ghibli film, though it's produced by Studio Ponoc. According to the Wiki "Yoshiaki Nishimura founded Studio Ponoc on April 15, 2015 with several animators formerly with Studio Ghibli", so that's not surprising. But I mean, we have: a girl witch with a broomstick and a black cat; a floating city, eccentric older types (I recognised Jim Broadbent's voice immediately) and mechanical men!

It was to hot to do much today, but I reworked the supports for the Solar Arrays. Up until now they've just been simple tapered box prims. I decided it'd make send if they were hollow, and be a place to house the equipment the runs them (they move to follow the sun's position) and a space for spares.
And I also added a chamber next to one which houses the power supply fo M.A.L. Why not? But uou better wear the right protective gear!

I tried watching the RSA video promoting this book, but the rules themselves were never explicitly mentioned at all. II'm always suspicious when that happens. The last time there was a big promise of something like this was THE SECRET which at the time was sold shrinkwrapped in the bookstores. Also, couldn't find an actual list of these rules anywhere on the net, other than in PAY-TO-SEE/BUY sites. Yeah, Right. Especially when I read this in the Guardian review:
The big duality in 12 Rules for Life is the opposition of order and chaos. The point of the rules is, as the subtitle states, to provide “an antidote to chaos”. The maintenance of order is at the core of Peterson’s world view. Order is truth. It is singular and masculine. Chaos is “the eternal feminine”, a misty Jungian formulation that puts the author in the invidious position of promoting a how-to manual on suppressing the feminine principle.
SIGH.

Having weirdness again while building on the Seconds Grid.
Having weirdness again while building on the Seconds Grid. I think this happens after I've added prims to a linkset, or removed them. What happens is that the ownership disappears - not just on something added or removed, but on EVERYTHING. It comes back eventually, but I have to go do something else and come back to it.

SPOILERS AHEAD
n many respects this film DOES mirror Attack of the Clones(AOTC) and The Empire Strikes Back (TESB), so failure MUST be a part of that.
In all three films the main force user - Anakin, Luke, and Rey - are moved away to isolated planets and undergo a "test" by the force. Both Anakin and Luke fail (Anakin in the biggest way possible) , but Rey passes, because she doesn't take her fears with her into the Dark Side place. Later in all three films the main force user goes to confront the antagonist and ultimately fail to win. Both Anakin and Luke lose a hand, but Rey merely loses her misplaced faith in Kylo.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the field the the other "good guy" characters manage at best, to obtain a Pyrrhic victory. The Jedi save Anakin and Padme but fail to prevent the war from starting. Leia and Co escape with Luke, but lose Han. Leia & co escape (thanks to Rey), but lose Luke.
The Star Wars main saga history rhymes in each trilogy.

It’s The Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel.
It’s The Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel. We’re setting it in Britain in the 60’s, and our approach is The Ipcress File meets Doctor Who. At this moment, it’s my favorite thing we’re working on.
My initial reactions are...
- Why?
- Who's Shane Black and why does he think HE can do this properly?
Sorry, but the original Avengers wasn't "The Ipcress File meets Doctor Who". It was its own unique self. I think attempting to recreate only the Steed + Peel era is a mistake, akin to rebooting Doctor Who and only have the 4th Doctor.
It might be better setting this in contemporary times, and having a new set of Avengers (appointed by "Father", played by guest star Joanna Lumley) investigating cold cases , and even hot cases, from the past. Instead being a comedy of manners and spoof on British mores of the 60s, it do the same for contemporary times.
Maybe.I predict "development hell" for this idea.

..and then I changed it again.
..and then I changed it again. While the previous arrangement was OK, it didn't really leave enough space for the generator, or rather it left an awkward space to fill. So what I did was extend floor out by a few metres to accommodate a gas container. That meant changing the batteries to two banks of eight, so 16 instead of 18.
To make that work and not look equally awkward, I extended the roof and the rec area as well. That meant that observation point on the roof became a balcony, and a short flight of steps now leads up to the 4th level from the roof of warehouse section. The generator exhaust is still a long duct, but now it goes to the rooftop.
And I also decided to get rid of the curved canopy of the covered area on the roof. That was replaced by sloped eves, and lockable spot for a forklift. Is anyone going to steal a forklift? Probably not, but it helps prevent sabotage and petty theft, and leaving valuable equipment out in the rain. Looks odd on these images, but matches the other coverings around the base.

I completed the TUFFco Generator this afternoon, and created three WESTIE banks of batteries as well.
The TUFFCo generator is loosely based on a CUMMINGS QSJ8.9G (see https://power.cummins.com/qsj89g) which looked right for the part and had everything concealed under panels. There's several textures used in creating it, including a few with scratches and marks. Inside we see a control panel (borrowed from a pump) and a bank of electronic stuff. But, no actual engine, yet. I'll make that if I need it. Notice the exhaust duct leading out behind it so that it doesn't pollute the air on this level. I probably have it coming out the wrong part of the generator, but so it goes.
Behind the generator (which no longer has its own room) is the Battery Room, full of 18 batteries and two inverter/controllers (and 4 cooling fans). There's enough clearance space around these so that you can open up any front panel for inspection, and some spare space down the back. At the Praxis end of the base we have two banks of 4 batteries each. It's mostly office and lab space at that end and these are not in use all the time. Solid walls have been placed behind each to prevent weather issues.

Working on the "Westies" Commercial Battery/Inverter units for the base.
Working on the "Westies" Commercial Battery/Inverter units for the base. These are very loosely based on Tesla equivalents, though sizes and logos are all different. As you can see the details inside are merely flat images, but that's OK, the Praxis contractor skimped on some of the features to meet their budget. The digital inhabitants in the Alterverse are used to such things, but sometimes think that it reflects on cheapness and poverty, rather than convenience. It's whatever one is used to.
The "WESTIES" brand, like "BOGAN", come from Australian slang terms. A Bogan is roughly equivalent to a redneck or chav in some ways. A Westie is someone who lives in the Western part of Sydney. There can easily be an overlap in both terms.

Not doing much just now, but I did make a control panel for the Air Exchange units. In practice this will be a BB base for each Air exchange and related ducting. The magenta panel is just in case it's used in a comic image, so that the panel can be deleted and a readout placed there instead.

Which is interesting, because Blade Runner 2049 definitely has things in it that could launch other movies. Characters are introduced, talk about huge things they're involved in that we barely see, and then exit the movie again.
That was noticeable in the film. It was as if it was set in the Spanish Civil War, and all we hear about that is that Franco's organised an uprising.

BUILDER'S BUDDY OR NOT?
BUILDER'S BUDDY OR NOT?
I'm debating about using Builder's Buddy with the Seconds Grid sets, or not.
The Builder's Buddy system (BB for short) is a a set of two scripts: the Base script, which goes in a base prim, object or linkset; and a component script, which gets inserted into each separate linkset of the build. What you do is create you build and divide it into a number of linksets of 1 or more objects, and add (or use one of the existing) linksets as a base. You add the appropriate scripts to each bit, and then take copies of all the component linksets into your inventory and add those to your base. And finally after you've done that, you can set the relative positions of each component, and rez/clear them as you want. If you move the base linkset, all the component linksets move with it. You can find scripts for this at the SL wiki - http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Builders_Buddy_v1 - and at GitHub - https://github.com/Outworldz/LSL-Scripts/tree/master/Builders%20Buddy/Builders%20Buddy - which seems to be the most recent version for OpenSim.
Because the rezing of the components is actually copying them from the base's inventory, it's a great way to both make builds that exceed the SL limit of 256 links, and in SL (where I first started making Machinomics) a way of making build when you don't actually own any land. I could work on and shot at these builds in public sandboxes, usually a few thousand metres above the ground, and when done derez the component linksets quickly. Of course there were certain constraints as well. The scripts use a DefaultPRIMCHAN which is the channel that the base communicates to the components with and they had to match or derezing and other commands don't work.
Because this is an integer it could be a signed 32 bit value between −2,147,483,648 and +2,147,483,647! Having a 10 digit number available gave me some leeway in identifying each set and subsequent sets on a build. I'd start one build a day at most, and base the "top level" DefaultPRIMCHAN number on that date. For example, if I started a build on the 4th September 2014, I'd make the root number YYMMDD_0000 or 1409040000. I'd also add that number to the name of the base linkset, e.g. _DOLBYS 1409040000. At the same time I'd add a an "identifier" to the names of the component linksets. In the example above, the base of DOLBY'S BASE was a central column linkset, and there were several component linksets: ROOF, COMMAND, MAIN, KITCHEN, WAREHOUSE, and two SOLAR ARRAYS. I'd give each and ID number and they might get named like ROOF 1409041000, COMMAND 1409042000, MAIN 1409043000, KITCHEN 1409044000, WAREHOUSE 1409045000, and ARRAY 1409045000 and ARRAY 1409047000. Those numbers would then be used to define the DefaultPRIMCHAN for further linksets that could be rezzed from one of the main component linksets. For example ROOF 1409041000 might only be a linkset containing the floor of the roof plus any railings and doors. If you wanted more, you'd insert a BB base script in one of the objects in linkset, and use 1409041000 for DefaultPRIMCHAN in that copy of the script. Extra objects placed on the roof would get a component script with the same number, and be added to as per above. And of course one of those objects could also have a BB base script with hidden comments, all using 1409041001 for for DefaultPRIMCHAN (and each getting that number at the end of their names.
In practice this meant that I could get away with three levels of BB scripting. The first level would be a "shell" building only the exterior of the set. The second level might add walls and doors to a level of that build (or external details, which you wouldn't need to rezz if you were shooting inside the set), or signs on the walls already rezzed. The third level ,which might use a sign or rubbish bin in a space that'd been rezzed in the 2nd level, might add actual funiture and props to a room. That had advantages when working in public sandboxes - you only rezzed what you needed and could keep the prim count low. If this had been a regular build in SL or OS, things might have been more permanent, but they'd also be on owned or rented land. The disadvantage to such a technique is that I had to be absolutely methodical in my building practices. I needed to build from large/top level down to small/bottom, to ensure consistency in the channel numbers. Also major changes were major affairs, because they would require reworking each BB base/component set. Also, using a B next to the edge of a region was problematic. If your rezzed linkset lies outside that region it might not rezz properly.
So the question I have is whether or not to use this technique for the Seconds Grid?
I can have as many regions as I want, of whatever size I want, and I can let builds sit in a region for as long as I want. Not only that, but because I'm also the admin, I can "hide" regions by either renaming their ini files in the /BIN/REGIONS folder, or even commenting them out (using ";") within those files. There's no rush in building. but there might still be advantages in shoots, by only having the bits you need to shoot rezzed, you can orbit around the the scene without a dozen walls or props being in the way. It's also easier to move a whole set around, just move the base object/linkset! Also, if you have components that you you want to keep separate, and not in a huge linkset, you can do that with this technique. At the same time however, you add an extra script for every base or component object/linkset you have, especially in the base because the script's still running even if nothing's been re4zzed..
The air ducts/aircon equipment on the Support level would be much better as a BB set, to be rezzed only if they're needed. I must think about this before I go much further.

I made a late start today, partly due to the heat.
I made a late start today, partly due to the heat. One of the main features of the Service level is the air conditioning equipment. I made a couple of Air Handling Units, based on the image at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_handler#/media/File:Air_handling_unit.JPG. There's no reason why they'd be much differenmt I guess. I added some bling piping for effect. Have just laid down the ducts, but they need to resized and positioned correctly and connect with the four main ducts that go downstairs. My original idea was to have them on the floor, but slightly raised up might be better. But if I do that I need to add supports. In either case I shall probably have to add a couple of "bridges" over them to prevent accidents.
I added a battery and a generator/regulator room near the stair well. Seems the obvious place to put them. The small room at the back is a combined toilet / emergency shower. This is a hangover from the Alpha base, which uses two arrays of old truck batteries full with acid ready to injure someone. They've never got around to replacing them. Here however brand new kit has been installed, but the shower remains, just in case!
The Praxis section hasn't been done yet, but will be an even more simplified arrangement.

This too can be true, though "How I look to everyone around me" is also most likely a delusion of one's depression.

Awwww, but this guy's buying into someone else's idea of what their future "ought" to be.

I'm probably missing something obvious here, but something weird is going on.
I'm probably missing something obvious here, but something weird is going on. I use one avatar - Master Builder - to build everything in the Seconds Grid. Usually, no problem, but lately every so often the Creator/Owner/Last Owner fields go BLANK while I'm building. They come back eventually, but I don't know why they vanish in the firsat place.
