I finished re-watching this anime series last night (and then watched the film). I first watched this on SBS sometime in the last decade, but I hardly saw all of it. Instead there was the odd episode. The finale is rather sad, but fits the timbre of the series as a whole.

I thought the GHOST IN THE SHELL live action film was mediocre at best (especially the rewrites which keep scenes but to a different plot). Now if there were a NETFLIX style live action TV series of this!

This morning I discovered that this was showing at the local cinema, and the earliest session was 5:45pm.

This morning I discovered that this was showing at the local cinema, and the earliest session was 5:45pm. So naturally I fed the pets early and went off to watch it. Transpires that this was filmed in Australia (at Coober Pedy & Sydney) and produced in Eastern Europe. Mostly a road trip in an SF setting, with an interesting division into "chapters". The Volume One part of the title implies more to come.

I hope so, this was well produced, and had interesting credits like "frantic townsfolk" and "dead bodies". Gimme more!

Good grief - 3B still works! This 3D Web viewing technology dates from 2005. You can still read the site at http://faq.3b.net/ and probably download and install the viewer.

So what do you get in 3B? You can run your avatar around "rooms" and click posters in those rooms., which will either transfer you to other rooms (like the "Airport"), show you a flat version of a website, or take you to a custom 3D room fill of poster/links. You used to be able to create one of those custom rooms but I suspect that's broken now. Gee, I wonder why it never caught ? ;)

I decided to try out Krita properly by drawing something I like with it. I love Full Full Metal Alchemist, The Brotherhood, which I'm currently watching. Lots of dark events and things mixed up with the light. So anyway I thought I'd draw Edward and Alphonse Elric, and their mechanic Winry Rockbell. The poses (including Alphonese's) are based on photo reference, and I used animation guides (which can also be found on the net) for the colours and details on their outfits. I've set them near the ridge of a hill just before sunset, with Ed trying to figure out what to do next .

I learnt a lot about Krita creating this. It seems a capable drawing and editing program, much more similar to Clip Studio Paint (which I already use)than either GIMP or Photoshop. Very tempted to do a couple of tutorials on it, but I think I'll wait until I've drawn a bit more with it first.

SBS showed the 1st semifinal for the 2017 EUROVISION Contest this morning, between 5-7am! I only found out by accident, when I woke up a bit past 5 and it was too cold to get out of bed, so I surfed TV.

After checking I found that the 2nd semifinal will be on 5-7am Thursday morning, and the final at the same time on Sunday. I guess they're all live broad casts, whereas the "regular showings" are at night time, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Maybe SBS has been doing it this way for years, and I never knew. This year I think I might just record the Final and watch it Sunday afternoon.

I used photographic reference for teh poses, including a photo of a model of Alphonse, and animation references for the colours You can see the Reference docker to right). Not finished yet - needs tones and a background.

I found Krita to be very like Clip Studio Paint, which I used for the graphic novel. Still a bit buggy under windows, but it's a work in progress.

Rather than go see a film, I felt I needed to DRAW today. Here's another self portrait (based on a webcam shot) this time using the latest version of MyPaint. I'm OK with the results. I think I needed to know I can still draw.

As for MyPaint (http://mypaint.org/about/), it's OK for sketching, but has a couple of major annoyances after using other drawing programs. Pressing the SPACE-BAR brings up a context menu rather than allowing you to draw the canvas about with your pen or mouse, and all too often it draws a line from your old position to your new one, even when you don't want to do that.

There may be workarounds.
