I decided to do some fan art using KRITA (see https://krita.org/en/). This shows Ed and Alphonse Elric, with Winry Rockbell in the background, all from Full Metal Alchemist. I used photographic reference for teh poses, including a photo of a model of Alphonse, and animation references for the colours You can see the Reference docker to right). Not finished yet - needs tones and a background.
I found Krita to be very like Clip Studio Paint, which I used for the graphic novel. Still a bit buggy under windows, but it's a work in progress.
