I'm been using Firestone to build with mainly, but it imports a later version of linksets with an .oxp extension. After a bit of use I found that format, over the old .xml, to be superior. You can save a linkset with a specific location and when you reload it you can opt to restore it in the same location. That means that if you have a complex multi linkset structure, you can back it up and restore with all the components at the same relative location.
Anyway, I was attempting to load some linksets that were saved ages ago, and Firestorm just won't load the old format. At first I tried using CoolVL but the results were erratic - sometimes the only part of a linkset would load, and other times (especially when loading XMLs with sculpties in them) there didn't appear to be anything loaded at all! So, I moved to Singularity and better success in loading old XMLs. However, by accident I discovered that the XMLs that hadn't seemed to load with CoolVL, had actually done so!
I selected an area on the screen while in edit mode, and sure enough, something was there, but t didn't show at all. And then I discovered while panning around that I could see what was there through another object! Um, right. The weirdness didn't stop there. The region I was in seemed to disappear after I teleported out! However, when I logged Script Writer in at the same time using _Kokua (which used to be Imprudence, and which no longer loads XMLs), no problems!
Now of course I've been using Singularity Viewer (64 bit) 1.8.7 (6861) which is the latest stable version available but dates from Jun 16 2016. I guess - at least for Win 10 x64 systems, it's not being updated much any more. Going to try Alchemy next.
